Well, hello world! It’s been a while since I’ve written my last post. I’ve missed you! I’ve missed writing! Most of all, I’ve missed working through my thoughts — it’s therapeutic!
In life, we’re given this narrative of what we’re supposed to do. We’re supposed to go to school. We’re supposed to graduate and get a job and live happily ever after.
It isn’t that easy though, especially if you don’t follow the path of what you’re supposed to do. It comes down to the choice of what you’re supposed to do and what you want to do.
As I watched 27 Dresses the other day, one quote struck a chord within me. As Jane, played by Katherine Heigl, walked out of her sister’s engagement party where she was supposed to be the perfect bridesmaid, Kevin, James Marsden’s character, said, “You can say no, and you can do what you want. What do you want?”
You have the power to say no. It’s your life. They’re your decisions and and you have to live with them. If the situation is not right for you, then say no. You have the authority to create the life you want on your own terms.
In the end, if you love your decisions, then you do not need other people to be happy with them.
Create your life for you. Regret nothing.
OK, so it isn’t Monday. But, better late than never, right?
Plus, this post is inspired by my birthday, which is today. Don’t worry people — this post isn’t going to celebrate my life because who would that be fun for, besides my mom and dad?
A birthday is a day for friends and family to celebrate the life and being of one person. But, it dawned on me today, why don’t we focus our energy externally and celebrate strangers — the person sitting across from you on the bus, the person walking down the street, the person in front of you in line at Starbucks?
Many Monday Motivations focus on how to be internally resilient. This Monday Motivation is to make the world a more beautiful place. And, you have the ability to make stranger’s world a brighter place.
Do you remember the last time someone complimented you? How did you feel after you received that compliment? That feeling is unforgettable.
As a birthday present to me, I challenge you to make someone’s day. Do something you normally wouldn’t do. Get out of your comfort zone. I’m sure you’ll find it’s exhilarating.
I’d call this a self-less good deed, but I’m always reminded of the Friends episode where Phoebe tries to prove to Joey there’s such a thing as a self-less good deed.
But, in the end, beauty is created by you — your attitude, your behavior, your actions — it’s all up to you.
Make the world a more beautiful place!
